Synthetically Enhanced Colored Diamonds

As mentioned previously, there are those stones with naturally occurring color. If a diamond has nitrogen in it, it often has a yellow tint to the stone and thus will be classified as yellow diamonds. If the gemstone has been effected by radiation, the gem may turn green.
For those with a smaller budget who would not ordinarily be able to afford a fancy gem, can now do so with treated diamonds which are a very attractive option. Gemologists have found ways to alter the colors of diamonds to get any shade or hue desired.. The grading process for colored diamonds is slightly different than that of the transparent diamond. The first part of the color grading process is the identification of the primary color range, eg blue, pink etc.. Secondly, they are graded based on the intensity of that color. The more intense the colorization of a natural diamond, the more rare and thus more expensive it is valued to be. . In almost every case, a natural stone will out grade an enhanced version.
Man Made Diamonds
Most diamonds are found and mined by miners, but more recently, scientists have come up with ways to create synthetic diamonds. A synthetic version is still a real diamond, just created in a lab instead of the earth, and, of course, are much less valuable.
Colored Diamond Names
Because fancy colored diamonds can be found in many shades, it can often be complicated to interpret the name of the diamonds color. Often, you'll find two colors labeling the shade of a diamond, such as greenish blue. Each diamond color name will have a primary color attached. In our example it would be blue. If another color is mentioned with an 'ish', that would be the secondary color. If you come upon a diamond labeled "brown red", then the diamond will have equal amounts of both colors seen through the stone.
