Crib bumpers should be removed as soon as the baby can roll over, or use breathable bumpers. Window blind cords should be created up high out of reach of the child. Many foods such as hot dogs, raisins, grapes, goldfish crackers, popcorn, nuts and even small pieces of napkin can get caught in the throat of a toddler therefore obstructing their airway. Balloons are a major cause of airway obstruction.
Falls - Pad all furniture with sharp edges or corners. Pad or gate off the fireplace and hearth. A gate (not a pressure gate) should be used at the top and bottom of the staircase. Second story walkways with short railings should have tall pieces of plexiglass attached to prevent climbing over. Plexiglass should be applied to the railings of outside balconies as well.
Drowning - Kids can drown in as little as 1-inch of water! Use a child fence around your pool and alarm any doors leading to the pool. Use toilet lid locks on all toilets, additionally use door top locks to prevent the toddler from entering the bathroom unsupervised. Never leave you baby unattended in the bathtub, if for some reason you have to leave the bathroom, take the child with you.
