Parenting Tips Relating To Brothers And Sisters
There are more people tackling single parenting who find that children will even make up lies about a brother or sister and look for parenting tips and advice for support, especially if the favored child that can "do no wrong" in a parents opinion will believe the lies told. This is correct in a case when parents do not discipline fairly in a household as detailed in many of the parenting articles. Brother or sister rivalry can be seen as a negative part of growing up, or even it can be seen as a positive aspect of growing up. Some see it as the first step towards two children learning the best way to resolve conflict. Parents can step forward and support siblings learn how to "fight fairly". At some age, it is recommended to not intervene in each and every little "battle" that your kids sometimes have. It is important to allow them to learn to work out conflicts on their own. If you allow them to create healthy conflict-resolution styles chances are they will develop mature friendships and relationships when they're older.
At the same time, you do not want to allow your children to abuse one another by hitting each other or calling names. However, you want to encourage them to learn how to get along and to forgive each other when hurt has been caused. One important thing you can do as a parent to lessen the likelihood that your children will hate one another is to love them for who they are as individuals. Even though you cannot always treat each child the same, you can try to be as fair as possible when enforcing rules, applying discipline, and giving certain freedoms.
Also, it is important that you as a parent stop comparing one child to another. For example, it is best to not make statements to your children such as "why can't you be like your sister (or brother)?" In the long wrong this can damage a child's self-esteem. Do your best to encourage all of your children to develop into the completely unique beings that they are.
